Argus Career Training Institute (ACT I)

760 East 160th Street
Bronx, NY 10456

The ACT I program provides job training and placement for persons interested in and qualified to become Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors. This welfare-to-work program trains persons on public assistance, SSDI or unemployment benefits to become substance abuse counselors in a field where there is an acute shortage of well-trained personnel. Counseling and job readiness services enable trainees to resolve barriers to good jobs and upward mobility. The comprehensive classroom training includes supervised internships and job placement. The ACT I curriculum has been approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) enabling graduates eligible to take the examination to become Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC).
